Choosing the Right Art

To Commission Or Not To Commission?

Decisions, Decisions…

Choosing the right art for a home takes time and thought. Each artwork must stand on its own merit and add to the ambiance of the room, activating the space - whether it be to provide a grounding and uplifting energy to a living room or to infuse tranquility into a bedroom.

As a former art consultant working in California, I helped many collectors choose art for their collections. Now, as an artist, I'm working directly with a designer and her client who have intended from the get-go to give priority to original paintings to add colour, texture and a focal point to each room.

I am very grateful to have been invited to create a commissioned painting and, subsequently, to provide several other abstract and abstract landscape paintings his stunning new home right on the edge of a cliff at the gorgeous Rancho Santana resort in Nicaragua.

It’s a dream project - if not a bit intimidating. As in, how is the art going to compete with that view?!

I was invited to visit the site over a year ago to view the space while still under construction and to get a sense of the location, which is right on the edge of a promontory, with jaw-dropping views over the Pacific Ocean and up and down the coast.

Standing on the cliff top, feeling the breeze on my face, I listened to the crash of the waves beneath. The art could in no way compete with the raw and natural power all around me. Could it perhaps, instead, incorporate it somehow?

The Creative Process: Painting from the Right Brain

When I paint, I get into a zone that is beyond any logical time-space continuum. I don't think. It's not that I am rendered stupid while painting(!), rather the creative right brain / hemisphere is simply a non-thinking space where logical reasoning of A leads to B leads to C thinking, simply doesn't apply.

The truth is, at least in my experience, the right brain is an extremely active space in which I become highly focused with my intuitive senses sharpened, using my whole body, my intuition and my psychic abilities to conjure the painting into existence.

It’s as if I am in direct communication with the frequency of the colours themselves, 100% present in the NOW — a place in which 5 hours in the studio can feel like a mere 5 minutes has passed.

I know what to do next: apply this colour, with this brush, in this direction and with this level of vigour or force. When I take that action, I will then know what the next action is. It's a case of following my intuition implicitly with each step I take. There is no room for self-doubt; stopping to question or doubt breaks the 'spell' I am under.

The master bedroom of this fabulous coastal home overlooking the Pacific ocean now includes Blue Zone, my 6’ square abstract seascape painting commissioned for the space.

Unique Soul-full Paintings

As I have developed this skill of painting intuitively, I have honed whatever it is I do (and I'm still not sure I can describe it in words). It is perhaps, more of an alchemy, a co-creative endeavour in collaboration with Spirit and my Higher Self.

I am moving the brush but there is also an invisible energy working through me, almost possessing me. In this space I become a channel for colour and frequency.

I am also able to connect to the energy of the people for whom I am making the painting, and also to the land where the painting will hang.

And so now I connect and channel each painting for specific person or building, I have come to see that the paintings themselves hold a positive energy that is aligned with both their owners and the place they live and work.

The paintings themselves are a portal for higher vibration soul-healing and/or land-healing.

Commission A Painting By Trudie

If you’d like to commission a painting from me, please get in touch and tell me what you have in mind, including the size and the location you’d like it to hang. If I think there’s a fit, we can schedule a Zoom meeting to discuss your vision and the commissioning process in more detail.

Each commissioned painting is unique so you will receive a one-of-a kind painting on canvas that is entirely original to you and made specifically for your location.

Hope, oil on canvas, 60 × 72 in —commissioned painting for the New York offices of Hart Howerton

The painting has arrived and is stunning. You brilliantly captured the spirit we discussed and then made it your own, perfectly fitting the space. It is wonderful. I am so excited! It is like Christmas here!

I have a limited number of slots available for commissions, and depending on my schedule, I can usually begin your painting(s) within 2 to 6 months. I usually paint on canvas and each painting typically takes 8-10 weeks to complete.

If you’d like something sooner, or prefer to buy a painting that’s already created, you may wish to browse my available Original Paintings in my online Art Shop. I ship internationally and can provide a quote for delivering large paintings overseas.

I also suggest joining my Newsletter where you’ll get first access to new paintings coming out of the studio, and to learn more about the creative process behind my abstract paintings.
