I use concertina sketch books to record the visual language I see and feel when I travel. I may work out ideas for compositions, experiment with colour combinations and note my responses to the landscape. Each place provides different energetic information and my goal is to commit this visual and sensory information to memory in order to capture the essence of place as a trigger for when I return to the studio.
