Not Hardly

This oil painting is from the Union series and includes a wide angle ‘V’ or ‘U’, a gestural abstract symbol I felt compelled to include. A strong vertical line often grounds this feminine shape and refers to the sacred masculine. These forms may be held within a ‘landscape’ as referenced by a horizon line, which itself provides a structural element in the composition. 

I made this painting in southern California where I was experimenting with a palette of pure saturated colour and their relationships: rich deep reds bleeding into cool.The title refers to Alice in Wonderland, a story I frequently recalled while living in LA…
