Why I use a sketch book (video)
The contents of a sketchbook are as personal and unique as its owner. As an abstract painter, I use my sketchbook to record ideas and work out compositions and colour combinations in pastels and graphite. Making preparatory drawings on a small scale can be a good way to test out which ideas might translate to a larger scale - but not all make it to becoming a painting on canvas.

Something there is that doesn’t love a wall. Robert Frost’s poem Mending Wall inspired this aerial landscape painting which was also influenced by the political complexities of Brexit.

Newlyn School of Art's Canopy Exhibition Draws Artists from across the UK and even Asia
The culmination of a year long mentoring course at the Newlyn School of Art, Trudy Montgomery’s abstract paintings are on display in the 2016 graduate exhibition at PZ Gallery in Penzance, Cornwall. The exhibition includes her large scale canvas Threshold and work by 15 other local and international artists enrolled in the programme. With thanks to Jesse Leroy Smith, curator, Faye Dobinson and Gareth Edwards for their excellent tuition and guidance.
